This week, Trancas International Films announced they were shopping the rights to the movie franchise Halloween. Trancas owns the TV rights to the Halloween, however, do we really need a television show of the franchise? Over the years, Halloween has become the meme of the farmer that overmilks the cow. However, I get it, television executives love to play it safe when it come to television shows, they want well known franchises that will get people to still care about a dying platform (cable television).

How receptive would audiences be to a new Halloween movie, since we were told Halloween Ends was supposed to be the for realises final battle between Lorie Strode and Michael Myers. What could you possibly do to advance the story at this point? Make Allyson the killer? Have people become possessed by Michael’s spirit? Or would they cop out and make a series about what happened before the first Halloween movie?

I have a suggestion. Expand on Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. If John Carpenter wanted to tell stories other than Michael, this could be a great opportunity to do so. This could bring some creative juice back to the Halloween franchise. Many fans are still upset over Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. The real horror story here is another studio trying to suck the last cent out of another horror franchise.

There is so much competition these days, along with many great streaming services for horror. Isn’t about time we got more creative with horror? How many times can we drag Myers, Vorhees, Kruger, and Jigsaw out before horror fans have just had enough? The old saying is “I can’t miss you if you don’t go away.” I think studios should heed that saying. Maybe it’s time to put beloved franchises in the ground, for good.

Again, I get it. Horror fans are still a huge minority, and mainstream movie going fans just want to see the same mindless garbage over and over again. The plot doesn’t matter anymore, just give us gory kills and our pew-pews. Sadly, this attitude wins out, so can you just skip to the part where you explain how Michael survived the car crusher, and he’s terrorizing Haddonfield for the thirteenth time?
