Welcome to the first in a series where we look at independent horror creators. Today, I introduce you to a passionate horror fan that has built quite a following on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok. Her weekly Coffee Chat of Horrors dissects horror movies, with the precision that would make Dr. Herbert West jealous. Thanks to her passion, she knows more about many horror movies than the directors themselves. When she is not dissecting horror with the greatest of precision, she is on Twitch and Soop playing horror games from the most mainstream to ones many streamers wouldn’t have the guts to play. This week on the “Indie Creator Spotlight,” we pick the brain of ReAnimateHer.

The Queen Takes Her Throne

Her love of horror, like many horror fans, began at a young age: “I was a little girl and my grandmother showed me a few monster movies when I was younger and its been love at first sight since.” She became a fan of Vampira, “she played a huge role in my growing up watching reruns of some of her shows and movies.” For those of you unfamiliar with Vampira, she was the first horror host(ess) on television, thanks to The Vampira Show that ran on KABC in the 1950’s.

As for her favorite genre of horror, she loves all things shocking. I have been to many of her Coffee Chat of Horrors episodes live, and always notice she has a great thrill when she is discussing a shocking film like Anti-Christ. Coffee Chat of Horrors airs live every Sunday on YouTube and Twitch at 1:30 pm eastern time (11:30 am mountain time). She is also one of the interviewers at the Calgary Horror Convention every year, and has enjoyed the company of every horror celebrity she has met through the convention. Her favorite was Leatherface in the 2022 adaptation of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, “I loved meeting Mark Burnham he played Leatherface in 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre he was so down to Earth and nice. I loved every celebrity I have met so far and had the pleasure to interview via the Calgary Horror Con.”

Navigating a Male Dominated Space

I asked her about any unpleasant interactions she has experienced:” I do run into boys who think they know more than I do with horror or think I am faking my horror love. They like to test me and well I put them to shame.” Her encyclopedic knowledge of horror extends beyond mainstream franchises into obscure subgenres and forgotten cult classics that even seasoned genre historians would struggle to recall, making every conversation feel like accessing a forbidden archive rather than merely sharing space with another fan.

Here she is talking about REC, and what went into the film:

When asked about how we make more people feel welcomed in the horror community: “I think the horror community is pretty good as it is. But if you see one of your friends doing this to another horror fan of the female kind correct them and let them know women love horror too.”

Fun Facts About RAH

ReAnimateHer is not a political person, and doesn’t think horror should overtly be political in nature, “I am not sure if I would call it easy because if you put too much politics in horror and do not camouflage it well, people will most likely avoid it. However, blend the politics in nicely and you’ll have a great movie. Examples: They Live so well done, it’s political but it’s not going overboard.”

She thinks the most overrated author is Stephen King, but thinks that Jac Ketchum is someone who should be more read. According to her, all female directors are underrated, and she thinks she’s in the minority when it comes to enjoying Jason X.

Thank You, And Goodnight

Thank you to ReAnimateHer, someone in the horror community I am quite fond of supporting, and the first interviewee on our Indie Creator Spotlight. She has a dedicated, wonderful, and amazingly friendly fan base that she lovingly calls The Horde. (Something I am proud to say that I am a member) If she is your gateway into horror, you know you will become a fan for life. Please, if you get a chance find her on YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, or Soop. She even has a Pateron, for those who want a little extra. I leave you with what she would like as her obituary.

“In the shadowed embrace of the midnight hour, our beloved ReAnimateHer slipped beyond the veil,

leaving behind echoes of eerie laughter and the flickering glow of a thousand haunted screens. Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and the reigning Queen of Scream, she walked the fine line between the living and the spectral, forever drawn to the macabre and the mysterious.

Her heart beat in sync with the chilling whispers of the night, her voice a siren’s call to all who dared delve into horror’s dark embrace. Whether conjuring frights or sharing sinister stories, her spirit lingers in the places where shadows dance and nightmares take root.

Though the grave may claim her body, the legend of ReAnimateHer shall never rest. She is watching… in the dark… always.”
